Using Essential Oils 101
Aromatic- Certain essential oils, when diffused, can be very stimulating, while others can be calming and soothing. Diffusing essential oils can also purify the air of unwanted odors and some airborne pathogens.
Topical- Essential oils are easily absorbed by the skin and can be safely applied optically.
Internal- Essential oils can also be used as dietary supplements supporting a variety of healthy conditions.
Before using essential oils, keep these in mind:
- Some oils are contraindicated if you are pregnant, nursing or using them on a young child. There are so many safe oils to use during pregnancy and on young children, so make sure you some that you know are safe. See my list here.
- Some oils need to be diluted in a carrier oil (like fractionated coconut oil, jojoba oil or olive oil) before internal or topical use. My favorite essential oil brand specifies which oils need to be diluted.
- Essential oils are not regulated by the FDA and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent disease.
